I know Doc Severinsen from the Tonight show of course but he never "did anything" for me, he always seemed to be a queer queer and more than a little stuck on himself. Read Henry Bushkin's book on Johnny Carson and in a few words, he seemed to want to convey the message that Johnny Carson was basically a wealthy mess; Doc Severinsen, the only major figure from the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson still living (as of 2016), has roundly condemned the book. Perhaps the truth falls somewhere between Bushkin and Severinsen but I would find Bushkin's memoir's more credible. -- km
